Devi's Corner, Bangsar, KL - Banana Leaf Rice

How did you spend the first day of the new year? In true foodie style, we went for a banana leaf rice feast with The Unc and babysumokids at Devi's Corner in Bangsar, KL.

First meal of 2016

We arrived slightly before 11.30am, and the restaurant wasn't too busy yet so it was easy to get a table. It was very busy once we finished our meal around noon. The restaurant is air-conditioned and clean.

Service is efficient - as soon as we sat down, the waiter came and asked us what type of meat or sides we would like with our banana leaf rice, and promptly brought it over. For our sides, we ordered a mutton curry (RM10) and deep fried sotong (RM10). The mutton chunks were tender and flavorful, excellent indeed. The sotong was just okay, as the batter was slightly soggy.

We place our order for 3 banana leaf rice (RM7.50 each), as well as 2 roti canai (RM2 each) for the kids. They only serve banana leaf rice upstairs, but you can request nicely (like we did) for roti canai from downstairs to be brought up.

First, they will bring the banana leaf, on which they will serve 2 types of vegetables (we got spiced cauliflower and chickpeas), mango chutney, dessert (kesari), rice and then top your rice with curry sauce. They will also bring you a basket of deep fried papadums and snake gourd as well as 3 condiments which includes cucumber raita and some spicy pickle. For the curry sauce, we got to choose from mutton, chicken, fish and crab - I went for the fish and crab, spicy and delicious! For drinks, we had teh tarik (rm2) and teh ais limau (RM2). We really enjoyed the banana leaf rice, it was an immensely satisfying lunch and a great way to kick start the New Year!

I love the crispy deep fried snake gourd ;)
